For the past four years, Pensacola has flocked to the Annual Living the Dream Awards program. This program is twofold. It’s an opportunity to recognize local Pensacolians for the difference they make in our community and it’s a fundraiser. All of the proceeds from Living the Dream go to the Southern Youth Sports Association 501(c)(3).
Annual honorees are commended for living Dr. King’s vision and contributing to the betterment of our area and the nation. This year those recognized for embodying Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream included Robin and Lloyd Reshard, the dynamic duo behind The Pensacola Network, Robert Robino Productions, and other ventures; Belle Yates Bear, with The Arc Gateway, Inc. and other philanthropic endeavors; David Bear, of Bear Distributing and president of Arts, Culture and Entertainment Inc.; David Hawkins, with Gulf Power and owner of Joe Morris Funeral Home; Linda “Sonshine” Moorer, program director and on-air personality at Magic 106.1FM; Richard Appleyard, president of Appleyard Agency; Fred Robbins, retired NFL player, super bowl champion, Mr. Robbins Neighborhood; and Fred Levin, legendary attorney, philanthropist, and civil rights champion. Mr. Levin took time during his thank you speech to honor civil rights leader icon Rev. H. K. Matthews and gifted him with an Oskar Schindler medallion.
