AKA Celebrates Debutantes

Nine young ladies were presented to society Saturday evening at the Aka Sorority Ball held at New World Landing.
Dressed in beautiful long white gowns, the young ladies made their debut with grace and poise.

Mistress of Ceremonies, Mamie Webb Hixon, introduced the debutantes and gave a dynamic profile of each young lady.
The theme for the occasion was “Girls on Fire for Their Future”

As the debs gave their plans for their future, it was apparent that they were indeed “on fire” for their future.
As they danced their first dance with their presenters and then their escorts, it was a moment that had every mom and friend in the audience feeling proud.
As the evening progressed, dinner was served and afterwards, a presentation of scholarships was given by Cheryl Powell, Scholarship Chair followed by a tribute to their Silver Star Soror, Mrs. Frances Gray, Sergeant-at-Arms.

Also recognized were the Soros of the Year, distinguished Service Soror, and Sisterly Relations Soror.
Ending the evening, the debutantes, family and friends all enjoyed dancing to music provided by Bernard Heyward.
