Ministry Helps Women in Need
The women of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church of Pensacola, Fla. celebrated their 63rd annual Woman’s Day Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012.
Under the leadership of their pastor, Dr. Michael Thompson, the Outreach Ministry chose to develop “Project Favor House” as a way of coinciding with the pastor’s vision for the year, “Each One Reach One”.
Debra Haynes, Outreach Chairperson, asked each woman of Greater Union to bring a designated item, based on the first letter of their last name, on a certain Sunday during the month long celebration.
The drive was developed to give the ladies at Favor House something tangible that they needed and something spiritual that they needed. An invitation to anonymously join them for their praise and worship service on their special day and any other service was extended.
It was a rewarding experience for the ladies to reach out and touch someone’s heart and to assure them that they are loved and that God has not somehow forgotten about them.
“We are as one in Christ. Whenever one sister is in need we are all in need,” states Debra Haynes, who is pictured with Sue Hein, Favor House representative. She and Wanda Moorer, co-chair, along with Alva Shelby, presented the contribution to the ladies. This was done after their Woman’s Retreat on Saturday, as one of the culminating activities to conclude this year’s Woman’s Day celebration at the Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church. This may very well become an annual event.
