Local Church Helps Cancer Patients Beat the Heat
Thanks to the nursing ministry at Antioch Baptist Church in Pensacola, local cancer patients have a huge selection of light-weight turbans, scarves, wide-brimmed hats, baseball caps and more to help them beat the summer heat.
On Sunday, May 26, church members had the items officially blessed by their pastor, the Rev. Tyler Hardeman, Sr. On behalf of the ministry, Yvonne Broome, a Sacred Heart Cancer Center volunteer, presented the basket to Cancer Center staff on Wednesday, May 29.
Two other members of the congregation also volunteer at the Cancer Center on Airport Boulevard – Doris Underwood and Rose Smith.
The collection of items, valued at more than $150, also includes wigs and colorful bandanas. All of the items will be housed in the Resource Center, a gift closet which is a partnership between Sacred HeartCancer Center and the American Cancer Society.
All of these head coverings and wigs are free-of-charge to cancer patients, regardless of whether their physician is associated with Sacred Heart. The resource center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cancer Center, which is located at 1545 Airport Boulevard in Pensacola.
