Real Girlz Rock: Teen Empowerment Expo featuring Antonia “Toya” Wright
By: Carlyn “Cartilini” James
On Saturday April 12 teenage girls throughout Pensacola gathered at the Knights of Columbus Hall on 519 North Palafox St. in Pensacola, Florida. The teens were embraced by an opening prayer from Elder Shanna Robinson and welcomed by the visionary herself, Eboni Singer. The purpose of this event was to empower young ladies to become comfortable with whom they are, build strong self-esteem, and confidence.
Treated like royalty, each girl was greeted with a gift bag, door prizes, food, and several give-a-ways. They learned about college, finance, health and beauty. However, they became even more enlightened by their guest speaker Reality TV Star Antonia “Toya” Wright. She spoke to guests about having a strong mother-daughter relationship, staying true to themselves, and the importance of independence. As everyone was allowed an opportunity to ask questions for advice, she shared truths about her life experiences. As a mother and a positive role-model, Wright is the author of a New York Times Best-Seller Priceless Inspiration. She also owns a chain of boutiques called G.A.R.B., and currently stars in her own reality TV show on BET known as Toya A Family Affair.
In a world filled with peer pressure and several influences, the goal of Real Girlz Rock is to help young ladies overcome their obstacles by understanding that the challenges of life are not meant to break them but to make them stronger. As a Pensacola resident, Eboni Singer had a vision to develop a program encouraging young ladies to believe in themselves and realize their full potential. Coming to pass her vision of Real Girlz Rock was inspired by her childhood as she was well raised by her grandmother, became a homeowner at an early age, and has been a business owner for over five years. By grasping the attention of young females while they are still at youth, Singer stated that as young adults mistakes are often made but it does not mean that it has to dictate their future. Her motto is “Failure is not an option.” For more information about Real Girlz Rock or to stay tuned to the next empowerment expo log onto: www.realgirlzrock.com
