“God is the ultimate element in any marriage,” said Anthony Johnson, assistant pastor of New Dimensions Christian Center. “When we have the love of God which is … unconditional, that’s the kind of love that keeps a marriage together.”
Last Friday, the New Dimension’s Destiny Marriage ministry held its fourth annual Valentine’s Day celebration for couples.
Anthony, who coordinates the ministry with his wife, Aleta, says they hold the event each year to improve and enhance relationships in a “Christ-centered” manner.
“It was a great success,” Anthony said. “We [received] responses from attendees who said [the event] was done with a spirit of excellence.”
This year, participants were treated to many musical acts like national recording jazz artist Richard Hegens, Jr. But the fun didn’t stop there.
“It’s always good to dance with your love one,” said Joseph Oakley of Lillian, Ala.
Aleta Johnson, who will celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary with Anthony this year, says the Destiny Marriage ministry encourages Christian couples to enjoy themselves.
“Just because you’re married doesn’t mean the fun has to end,” she said. “We want people to come as they are – then they can see healthy fun marriages.”
Aleta attributes the success of her relationship to her belief in Christ.
“The closer we get to god, the closer my husband and I get together,” Aleta said.
