It was time for tea and a family strength- ening fashion event on Saturday, April11th. Delta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated hosted their 4th Family Affair Tea Party at the Marie K. Young- Wedgewood Community Center. The purpose of the tea was to coincide with one of the key initiatives of the sorority. This program targets critical issues facing many families, including lack of food, shelter, and financial resources. Delta Iota Omega Chapter sponsors community-based hunger initiatives, events such as a Family Seasonal Wraps Programs, fiscal responsibility programs, and several other community service projects to be of “service to all mankind.” Chapter members decorated each table in friendly competition. Table decorations were judged by Sharon D. Jones (University of Sorority members and guests West Florida), Kim LeDuff, Ph.D. (University of West Florida, and Sue Straughn (WEAR- TV). Winners included: Nettie Eaton and Francis Gray in 3rd place; Margie McCorvey in 2nd place and Charmere Gatson came in as the first place winner. Models displayed the latest fashion while guests enjoyed the afternoon with family and friends over tea. Most of the models were styled in clothing from Dressbarn in Cordova Mall. Vida Jerralds, her daughters, and The Roland Family provided additional entertainment. Acknowledgments and closing remarks were presented by Gloria Clay (Co-Chair) and Carla Scott Jones (Chapter President). Additionally A check was presented to Sylvia Tisdale for the Epps Chris- tian Center for its feeding program.
