The Internet: Good or Evil a Need or a Want?
The mere fact that the Internet is evil is as absurd as money is evil. The fact of the matter is that anything meant for good can be used for evil. As written in scripture it is not money that is the root of all evil; but “for the love of money is the root of all evil.” (1Timothy 6:10).
So we have to be able to associate the good of something in the manner it was delivered and not what it can do when used by evil doers. Computer viruses are manmade and are developed by some brilliant minded people. They use their knowledge of computer programming for evil when writing malicious computer script. The automobile is the preferred means of transportation today. What a great invention! It saves us time and physical energy to transport us from one place to another. Even in an emergency we depend on getting to the hospital in an ambulance, if our humble abode is on fire we anticipate the arrival of a fire engine to extinguish the fire. Even to another emergency situation the assistance of the local police they arrive in a motor vehicle. Right down to the removal of the Pony Express. This is what is called progress. This is all good and no immediate threat of evil, but if the operator of that vehicle is not sober, or does not know how to drive then the operator of the vehicle is evil not the vehicle. This list could go on forever regarding good things being used for evil or a want or a need. We will leave television out of the equation because we can now watch TV over the Internet.
A lot of beneficial things come from new ideas and inventions a lot of them are meant for good and designed for aiding mankind. The more a thing becomes beneficial, advantages, and aids to the common good it becomes a need. The internet came about to communicate point to point from one mainframe to another in 1960, the Internet was commercialized in 1995. This made it possible for us to communicate faster than ever before. We have the ability to send and receive electronic mail (E-Mail) with attachments in mere seconds that would normally take days conventionally (US Mail). We can sell and buy on line, bank online, have video and audio talks with friends and loved ones not to mention business meetings, a lot of medical physicians are allowing patients to converse with them using the internet, we have the ability to research anything we want, and there are no limitations as to how far away you can be. This is just to mention several basic functions of having access to the “Internet”.
This necessity of the “Internet” is a saver of; money, time, energy, and regular wear and tear on your body as well as your vehicle. You can research what you need or want acquire it on line and have it delivered to your door, or go directly to the store and pick it up.
Thank you developers of the “Internet” I believe your intentions were for good.
I hope to accomplish that you know you are smarter than your computer, that the computer is a tool, and you are the master of that tool. If you have any questions you would like answered in this column please send them to: email@example.com
