DeWayne Crocker Jr., the rising star from the Pensacola neighborhood of Montclair, won the competition this past Sunday, August 23rd, in the “BET Sunday Best: Race to the Stage” competition. He will make his national debut in BET’s winner’s circle on this Sunday August 30th at 7:00 PM CST on BET. In an interview at the Pensacola Voice Crocker said, “I had faith that I would be successful and win the competition! I believe that God has a plan for us all and I am walking in faith that this is mine!” Crocker was accompanied by his advocate/manager, Elrico Tunstall, CEO, of Pensacola- based GLR Productions. Elrico met Crocker when he returned to Pensacola from California after he graduated from Los Angeles Film School. “God has set the road for this young man. He is surrounded by the favor of the Lord,” he commented during the interview. He continues to promote Crocker as having a strong soulful voice that is very inspiring.
Crocker has been singing since the age of 5 and began his career at the age of 13. He competed with approximately 15,000 other competitors. As he reached the final leg of the competitive process he was the youngest of the group.
“The pressure was heavy. It was hard getting here, but I kept believing my break was going to come.” he shared in the interview. Crocker was also joined by his fashion stylist, Devin Tucker. Devin has been in the professional field for one year and is being mentored by celebrity fashion stylist J. Bolin of Jackson, Mississippi. Elrico made the comment when introducing Devin to Pensacola Voice staff that we should take note of Crocker’s outfit for his BET presentation on Sunday, because it will be the work of Tucker. Elrico exclaimed, “The whole world will be watching!” There will, also, be opportunities to see Crocker perform live in the Pensacola and Gulf Coast region:
