The 10th Annual Gospel and Gumbo Fundraiser was a “success” in spite of the rain on Sunday, October 25th. It was held at the Old Barkley House on Florida Blanca St. across from Pensacola Bay, downtown.
This festive event was a signature fund raising event for the St. Joseph’s Our Lady of Angels Free Medical Clinic and the Caring and Sharing Ministries of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in downtown Pensacola. It was attended by approximately 200 patrons and supporters. This Gospel Music extravaganza featured the St. Joseph’s Senior Choir at its best and was directed by Mrs. Angela Heard. The choir has been featured for the past nine years with former City Councilman, Mr. Ronald P. Townsend as past director. The choir preformed for a solid hour, highlighting old Gospel songs from “Going up yonder, This Light of Mine, Trampin, When the Saints go Marching In to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The choir traditionally features different soloists on each song. The choir now has a talented guitarist, Will McKean, Sonny Gaston on drums and Patricia “Pat” Mickleson on piano/keyboard.
