The Omega Golden Rule Foundation, Inc. in conjunction with the Beta Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. presented its 53rd Annual Que-Capades & Sweethearts Ball 2011 at the Corrine Jones Community Center at Sanders Beach on Friday, December
30, 2011 from 8 – 12:00 p.m.
The Ball, an annual fundraiser for Scholarships and other mandated community programs of the fraternity, was attended by approximately 200 patrons.
The traditional “Show” or program started with Brother Wallace Haywood, Vice Basileus bringing the welcome and opening remarks to the audience.
The theme was “A Night at the Apollo Theater”. The first Act was Ms. Cassandra Williams, a local vocalist with the Will Inspire Band, who sang a soulful Etta James’ “At Last.”
The second Act was performed by the incomparable Jazz Saxophonist, Austin Paul Conner. Jr. Austin played his award winning rendition of Grover Washington, Jr.’s “Let it Flow.”
Finally, the third Act was the hit of the evening. Ray Simmons, Jr. entered the stage as “The Ray Charles” singing “I’ve got a Woman Way Cross Town”. Dr. Marion Williams, in Drag, complete with a long flowing “blond wig,” Wendy Williams’ big boobs and
sunglasses appeared. The couple danced on stage and the number ended, with Ray running off stage. The crowd roared with laughter.
As in previous years, the “Que-Balls have always had a “Girly number” in its shows. This year was no exception.
After the entertaining “show,” The Past Sweethearts or Ball Queens of Omega were presented. These were: Mrs. Beverlyn Sanford Baines – 1972-73 & 1980-81; Ms. Janice Perress Lee – 1977-78; Mrs. Callista Mercer – 1990-1991; Mrs. Yasmeen Ali Brown –
