Sunday afternoon men, women and children came to enjoy the Easter festivities sponsored by
Truth for Youth. According to the founder of Truth for Youth, Rev. John Powell, this year’s event surpassed all prior celebrations.
“For the last 18 years we’ve sponsored this Easter event and this year we outdid ourselves,” Rev. Powell said.
The entertainment portion began with Rev. Bosman singing songs of praise and worship with Priscilla Sapp following.
Praise and Dance teams from all over Pensacola came to participate in dance and adoration. No Easter event would be complete unless the Easter Bunny arrived.
“We had about eighteen of them to arrive,” Rev. Powell said. “And they were truly hippity- hoppity,” Rev. Powell added with a smile.
The Blues Hound and the Blues Man of WRNE radio station sponsored the large bunnies.
“Sherriff David Morgan also donated to the cause to ensure a resounding success for the hundreds of children that were there,” Rev. Powell said.
From toddlers to preadolescents, Jumpy-Jumps, bowling and the egg hunt were all activities geared towards the children.
Not be outdone, Rev. Powell brought out his famous grill and offered up his “famous” barbequed bologna, turkey necks, neckbones, chicken gizzards, Alabama sausage, ham hocks, hotdogs and hamburgers.
“And don’t forget my famous Kool-Aid,” Rev. Powell said. “It will make your mouth turn red!”
Local politicians also stopped by to enjoy the festivities and get their tummies full.
“I really want to thank the City of Pensacola for allowing us to have this event at McGee Field,” Rev. Powell said. “It warms my heart that we have such great participation and involvement from the community.”
