Hundreds Attend Inaugural Event of Lean In Pensacola Chapter.
The Lean In movement has arrived in Pensacola and if the local chapter leaders get their way, this are will soon boast a staggering fifty circles. With each circle, or group, comprised of nine to twelve women, this initiative would touch many lives in Pensacola and the nearby areas.
Lean In, based on the 2013 book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg and Nell Scovell, is a community of women who gather in circles to help each other reach their goals. Jennifer McFarren, a community development representative at Gulf Power, leads the local Lean In.
The inaugural event was attended by 450 women and featured speaker Bertina Terry, vice-president of Customer Service and Sales at Gulf Power. Mrs. Terry states, “When we lean in it’s important that we find ways to be purposely inclusive.” This is one of the Lean In themes and interested attendees were asked to look beyond joining a group of women who look just like them. Anyone interested in joining a local Lean In group can do so at leanin.org.
