Kenneth Grier, a senior at S.L. Jones Christian Academy, signed a full scholarship to attend Ft. Scott Kansas Jr. College and play for the 3rd nationally ranked Jr. College football program in the nation and following his two years of study at the junior college, Grier will be joining the Florida State Seminoles and continue studying communications at Florida State.
Grier was allowed to play football at Pensacola High School under Coach Mincy this year and Coach Bennett the two years before. When a private school does not have certain sports program offered to its athletically inclined students, they are allowed to attend a public school that does have sports programs.
Grier attended S.L. Jones from the 6th grade to the 12th grade. On his scholarship signing day, he spoke to the students at his school. He thanked God for his success and urged his fellow students to pay attention in the class room and not allow other students to distract them from their studying. Grier said, “You all know me. You know how I have changed in order to go to college. It was not easy, but I have been able to accomplish by goal of getting my education and continuing to play football.” When asked how he felt about the scholarship, Grier responded, “It feels great and I am very excited about what I am about to experience”!
Rev. Demps stated, “Kenneth played both basketball and football. He played basketball for our S.L. Jones Jr. Varsity and Varsity teams and helped us to win the West Panhandle Christian Conference Championship in basketball. He went on to thank Rev. Demps, the academy’s CEO; Millicent Demps, the academy’s principal; Willie Demps, Jr., Dean of Students; and Coach Mincy, head football coach of the Pensacola High School Tigers.
