On Friday, February 12th, the Equal Rights District Congress of Christian Education, under the direction of moderator Pastor Larry Watson, Sr. of Englewood Baptist Church, held their second annual Valentine Sweetheart Banquet. The banquet, held at Englewood Baptist Church, is a fellowship and fundraising opportunity under the directorship of Pastor Luzell Stallworth of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. The Englewood All-In-One ministry provided catering.
Roberta Lawrence kept the program order and provided lighthearted humor throughout the evening. Also, on the program were Pastor Jack Reeves, Deacon Arthur Grooms, Rev. Charles McKinley, Deborah Lawrence, Christina Watson, Pastor Douglas Shine, Sr., Lela Grooms, and Pastor Larry Watson, Sr. The program also included crowning of the Equal Rights Queen, Ms. Lola Lewis, of Cedar grove Baptist Church. The queen was the fundraiser participant who raised the most money.
The banquet theme “Falling in Love with Jesus”, was taken from I Corinthians 13. Dr. Gregory Stallworth of Montgomery Elizabeth Baptist Church, in Clarkston, TN, provided the motivational speech of the evening. He expounded on the theme by reminding all what it was like when they fell in love with their significant other and how they were so enamored with each other. “We should have that same love for Jesus. That same excitement.” He later added, “If you’re a real man, if you’re a real woman, you start out loving Jesus. It’s all about what’s in your head, what’s in your heart, and what’s in your will.”
