The seventh annual Beauty by the Bay Fashion Show and dinner was held on Sunday, May 15th at the Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Center overlooking the Pensacola Bay. This annual fundraiser is presented by the non-profit King Richard Foundation, Inc. and funds their scholarships to send children to summer camp with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disorders.
Ann Richard, mother of King and the founder of the King Richard Foundation, Inc., considers the foundation and this annual event a labor of love. When we spoke last month she shared, “Our son was attending a summer camp for children with autism, when we saw the look on his face and how much joy he got from attending camp, we wanted to help other families bring this same joy to their children.”
Program participants included welcome, Ann Richards; program moderator, Mizti Fails; solo, Katrina Washington; fashion show moderator, Mamie Hixon; and fashion show coordinators Tracy Johnson and Tabitha Fields.
Attendees feasted on roast beef, green beans, rice, and rolls while sipping iced tea.
With Mamie Hixon, grammarian extraordinaire at the helm, the fashion show began with the delightful Lewis White and Nadia Mitchell leading the way before the Greeks took the center of attention. Richard has participation from eight of The Divine Nine. Participating Greeks represented the following organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
The Greeks started their segment sporting their finest paraphernalia. The next set showcased their casual looks. The fashion show concluded with the Greeks in their elegant finery for Sunday Service and other special occasions. All wardrobe choices while remained true to the colors of their respective Greek organization.
The eighth Beauty by the Bay will be held on Sunday May 21, 2017.
