Sunday morning service at Greater Mount Lily Missionary Baptist Church was no ordinary Sunday service. This service was the celebration of 59 years of the Church’s existence in the community.
Greater Mount Lily Mass Choir led the congregation into God’s presence with praise and worship.
As members and friends entered into praise, Sister Dekayla Whitehurst gave the responsive reading followed by a prayer with Brother Maurice Pettus III and Sister Akelah Reeves.
Sister Tanae Kemp gave the history of the church which enlightened every one of the courses that the church has been on.
There was a tribute to the deceased members and a Meritorious Service Award presented to Deacon Clyde & Sister Gwendolyn Tripp, Jr.
Speaker for the day was Pastor Dexter G Moragne . As Pastor Carl Reeves, pastor of Greater Mount Lily Church introduced Pastor Moragne, he told of how Pastor Moragne had encouraged him to keep the race. “He encouraged me and lifted me up to be able to come back and continue to run on.” Said Pastor Reeves. At Pastor Reeves encouragement, as Pastor Moragne took to the podium, the crowd shouted to him “Pastor Moragne, preach the Word! And preach the Word he did.
“If you have ever been through anything, he began, you should be clapping your hands, thanking and praising God. “
As he preached the Word, God’s anointing was evident in the place.
An invitation was given for anyone that didn’t know the Lord or was looking for a church home to come.
Afterward, a Sunday dinner of Fried chicken, baked chicken, casserole, greens, black-eyed peas, candied yams, rice, cornbread, cake, and tea was served.
