It was Hollywood in West Pensacola last Saturday night as an energetic crowd filed into club GamePlan to see Grammy-nominated Hip Hop artist Plies take the stage and perform some of his biggest hits.
The event, presented by Premier Entertainment Group LLC – an event promotion company based in Gainesville, pulled out all the stops to ensure fans had a wonderful experience. The spacious venue was lined with V.I.P sections where fans had the chance to sink into comfy couches while sipping complimentary Moscato.
Angelica Williams, a special events coordinator for Premier Entertainment Group, explained that this show is only the beginning.
“We plan on pulling more artists to the city, and not only concerts but anything that has to incorporate entertainment,” Williams said.
When it was time for the headlining artists to perform, the main room was packed with fans ready to catch a glimpse of the rapper.
“I’ve been looking forward to this the entire month, my cousins drove all the way from Macon,” gushed Shontira Moss, a local resident.
Up-and-coming artists Maintain & Kristie performed “I’m So Fly”, a hip hop ballad from Maintain’s first mixtape to warm the crowd up.
“I’m excited to not only show Plies what I can do, but Pensacola as well … it’s my time” said Maintain – he did just that. Maintain quickly pulled the crowd into his set with his energetic flow and fun lyrics, and by the time it was over he had the entire room dancing.
When his set was over Pensacola’s DJ Neutron jumped onto the turntables to turn up the crowd even more. Over a hip hop, reggae and rap playlist, he kept announcing that Plies was en route.
At 2 a.m. screams from excited ladies echoed across the room- Plies had arrived
After jumping on the stage Plies delighted the crowd with some of his biggest hits, then invited the ladies to sing along as the DJ played Keyshia Cole’ s “Love”. He jokingly crooned along until it was over, then he invited a few ladies from the crowd to dance with him.
“I want to know who the best dancer in Pcola is,” Plies said as he flirted with some of the ladies in the audience.
Born Algernod Washington, Plies has been hitting the Florida Hip Hop circuit hard this year. After a brief hiatus, he is climbing back into the music scene and he thanks his fans for supporting him.
“I do this for y’all… thank you,” Plies explained as he pointed to the crowd.
When asked about how he felt about his set Plies looked around at the smiling crowd, smirked and answered, “What do you think?”
