Researchers Find Blacks Have Highest Death Rate and Shortest Survival Rate for Cancer
According to doctors, African-Americans have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial and ethnic group in the U.S. for most cancers.
African-American women have a higher recurrence of certain cancers.
Researchers are working to identify cancer-related biomarkers associated with race.
This week, Dr. Rod Rocconi, who is chief of Gynecologic Oncology at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute, stopped by our studio during FOX10 News at 4.p.m. to talk about why cancer rates are higher among African-American patients. You can watch the interview in the accompanying video.
Dr. Rod Rocconi is credited with more than 130 presentations at national meetings and more than 100 published articles. Ultimately, he hopes to use this research to improve cancer outcomes for African-American patients in our region.
