Belmont Band member wins award

by Barbara Todd

Isabelle Peterson, 14, was the youngest competitor in the finals of the Jazz Society of Pensacola’s Student Jazz competition that took place at PSC’s Ashmore Auditorium last Thursday evening. ( March 15th.)

Furthermore, the home-schooled freshman won second place in the vocal division and $400, which she’ll use to further her music education. Along with other winners, she’ll perform in April at the JSOP’s annual Jazz Fest in Seville Square. Isabelle is a valuable member of the Belmont Youth Band, playing the guitar and singing.

She takes private music lessons as well and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, singing and playing her guitar for guests. She also performs at various venues with the Christian band, The Holy Rebellion.

“I feel like I’m in my element when I’m onstage,” she said. Isabelle isn’t the first Belmont Youth Band member on a long list of the Band’s award winners.

Earlier this year Ramel Price and Graham Loiselle, violinists with the Band, performed at the Pensacola Civic Center where they were both presented scholarships for the music program at Pensacola Sate College. Congratulations Belmont Youth Band and by all indications, Isabelle Peterson won’t be the last Belmont Youth Band’s award winner.
