Belmont Devilliers Neighborhood Association Gets a New Sign

Friday morning June 28th Belmont Devilliers Neighborhood Association got a sign representing their neighborhood.  Sponsored by the Pensacola City PCIP Grant Program, the sign is of a guitar representing the home of the blues and Jazz.
“Back in the day we had a number of entertainers coming to ‘the blocks’ as it was called,” said Delores Curry.
  Tyrone Davis, John Adams, Chuck Jackson, Ike and Tina Turner, Peggy Scott Adams, James and Bobby Purifoy, Ernest Stanberry, The Ojays, Ray Charles, James Brown, Clarence Carter and may other artists graced the stages of Abe’s 506.  “This was a part of the ‘Chittlin Circuit,” said Curry.
Today Belmont and Devilliers is revamping the area and bringing in cultural activities as well as new businesses.  “We are proud of our area. There is a lot of history here regarding African Americans.” She said.
