Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves Friday evening, August 24, at Phineas Phogg’s located in Seville Quarter. Some were dressed in evening wear, others adorned in Obama T-shirts and jeans. But everyone seemed to have fun.
The Democratic Party of Escambia County held its second “Party” to help raise funds for President Obama’s reelection campaign as well as for state democratic candidates like Bill Nelson. The heavily attended event was the second in a series of four. The Third “Party”, a Kennedy-King themed dinner, is tentatively scheduled for October.
Attendees had a chance to receive door prizes, participate in a silent auction and dance the night away at Friday’s event. And, according to Vivian Bristow, an Escambia County Democratic Committee member and event organizer, it was all for a good cause.
“The turnout and enthusiasm at our last celebration demonstrated that there is a sizeable and dedicated community of citizens that have a shared commitment to moving Pensacola and the nation forward,” Bristow said. “And, they like to have a good time while they do it.”
Cassandra McAway, Chairperson of the Escambia Democratic Executive Committee commented that, “Pensacola is a small city with a big heart. We care for each other and want all our children to inherit a better country and a better world. That is what motivates Democrats; and, we think that is worth celebrating.”
“The objective of this is to get like minds thinking the same way,” Bristow continued. “I think it will show more cohesiveness in the future as we really and truly continue to bring people together under this umbrella and show them how they can make a difference. But the difference that they make, they’re going to have to be together to do it – and that’s why we feel [the event] was an achievement.”
