Health Comes First at the Hope

Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church sponsored its Annual Hope Victory Walk and Health Expo Saturday morning beginning at 8am with a 5K Walk.

There was free breakfast and lunch for all who participated and those who supported.

Every year Zion Hope sponsors a Health Expo that comprises of free health screenings.

With the first health expo beginning in 1999, it has grown and has become an annual event that the community looks forward to.

Headed by Carolyn Martin RN, Leader of the Health Care Ministry at Zion Hope, every organization that participated had something to offer the public.    Whether it was Sacred Health System that offered screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and anemia, or Florida Blu/Blue Cross Blue Shield of Fl that offered Eye Exams, everyone could get a check up and ask questions regarding their health.

Also there was Dr. Michelle Grier-Hall, MD, Pediatrics and Cheryl Jefferies, MD of Baptist Hospital.  Each doctor was quick to answer questions that could help either children or adults.

There was even a Health Insurance Panel on Affordable Health Care (Obama Care) that included Humana, Wellcare, United Health Care and Florida Blue/BCBS of Fl for people who wanted t know more about the coverage.

To add to the fun, there was also a Zumba moment to those who wanted to ‘shake it up’.

There were healthy cooking demos and various vendors there to sell as well as offer opportunities to earn a little extra money for the household.

Sponsors the event included NW Fl Mobile Blood Unit, C&G 1st Response, Fresh Market, Gentiva Home Health, Medihome Health Agency, Covenant Hospice, Sickle Cell Disease Association, Escambia County Health Dept., American Cancer Society and SHINE(Elderly Health Needs)
