Houser Memorial Celebrates 122 Years

Houser Memorial AME Zion Church celebrated their church anniversary beginning Saturday, October 5.  The chairman for the occasion was Ms. Juanita Palmer.

Church members and friends gathered on the church grounds at 710 East Jordan St beginning at 9 am.  From this location, they walked and motored to the corner of Maxwell and Hayne St., the site of House Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church before it was rebuilt on Jordan St.

While at this location, the group gave praises to God through songs, prayers and comments on the ways God blessed them when they worshiped at the church at this particular location.

After a heart- felt prayer by the Pastor Michael J. Evans, the group prepared to journey back to praise God singing “Thank You Jesus”, “We’ve Come This Far By Faith” and “If it Had Not Been for the Lord on our Side”.

The celebration continued on the church grounds with singing, praise dancing by the children and youth group, testimonial by members, and comments by the chairman, Ms. Junaita Palmer on the theme, an inspirational prayer by the Pastor Evans.  The children enjoyed the activities of sack racing, hula hooping, and jumping in the bouncing beam.  The children were given prizes for participation in the children’s activities.

Ms. Annette McGee described the occasion by stating, “I felt a degree of calmness and excitement.  It seemed as though the group had a spiritual halo over them.  The looks on their faces said it all, that this was a joyous and meaniful celebration.”
