In less than a year, Patrick Hudson has managed to create a loyal following. And his following knows, very third Sunday Hudson is going to bring them the smoothest sounds, the best food, and that the party atmosphere will continue throughout the evening. On Sunday, February 21st, Hudson and his sponsor, Sandy Sansing Nissan, were at Five Sisters for the Soul Food Sunday Social and they brought in The Smooth Soul Band to entertain the crowd.
As usual, Five Sisters and their excellent staff made sure the flavorful food kept coming and managed to keep the capacity and overflow crowd satiated. With a menu that included red beans and rice, fried green tomatoes, their Southern seafood platter, and other Southern delicacies they made sure no one left hungry.
The Smooth Soul Band is an energetic party band that had many patrons dancing in their seats. This band’s funky, smooth, R&B, jazzy sounds kept the crowd engaged all evening. Their lead male vocalist and manager, Travalious Campbell, is interactive with the crowd and the rapport he and Wanda Lewis, co-lead vocalist, have is genuine. Brandon Sanders on drums; Will Brown on bass guitar; and Mike Pyles on the keyboard, round out the band.
Between sets, I had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Campbell who shared it was the band’s first time performing at Soul Food Social and that they look forward to having an opportunity to be part of the Social again. When asked to describe their sound, Campbell stated, “I call it gumbo, you get a mixture of everything. You get old school, new school, jazz, funk, blues, neo-soul, Motown sound. We do it all.” The Smooth Soul Band will be at the 20/20 Social Club on Saturday, March 26th from 8 – 11 pm.
Hudson will be back at Five Sisters with the always free Soul Food Sunday Social on March 20th. If you’d like more information on the upcoming events Hudson is bringing to the Gulf Coast, join PHP. Text PHP to 313131 and he will make sure you are in the know.
