Sunday afternoon Truth for Youth gave a lavish Mother’s Day dinner for the mothers of the Pensacola community.

“We were happy to have over 40 mothers celebrate Mother’s Day with us,” said Rev. Powell, founder and CEO of the faith-based organization.

As the mothers dined, they listened to artists as Mahalia Jackson, Shirley Caesar and a host of old-time gospel singers.  At the culmination of the entertainment portion, John Powell Jr. serenaded attendees on the violin.

“We had a family from Chicago and they were very glad to be there,” Rev. Powell said.  “In fact, after they finished their meal they headed back to Chicago.”

H&O Restaurant catered Sunday’s event and Honey Florist donated white flowers to all mothers attending the occasion.

“We didn’t wait for anything,” Powell said.  “We had ‘to go’ plates available for those who wanted to take something home.”

“We want to thank our sponsors for coming through once again to make this Mother’s Day a special day for all,” Rev. Powell said.
