If you like “Southern Soul Music” then Friday night July 5th is your night to enjoy Jimmie’s soulful voice and hit tunes such as “Loving You, Good Loving, You Got it Going On, It’s Illegal and many others at the E S Cobb Recreational center.
This 49 year old singer brings not only exhibits vocal talent but also musical talent as well. “I’ve been in music since I was a child,” said Johnson. “I first began playing guitar in the church and have been in music all of my life.”
Signed with Brittney records out of San Antonio, Texas Johnson is originally from Mobile Alabama. “I now live in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.” He said.
When asked if this is a full time occupation he replied “This is all I do. I have a recording studio and I do record and produce other southern soul artists.”
Having sung with Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Key Notes and others, Johnson has played guitar with them for years.
“One day I was playing bass for Jeff Floyd, a personal friend of mine and he wanted me to write a couple of songs for him. When I began to sing the songs for him, he responded- oh no man, you should be singing these songs for yourself. I said I would try it.”
After my music got back to Mr. Mel Waiters of Brittney Records, he liked what he heard. We talked and I signed a contract with Brittney Records and we’ve been going since.”
On the line up with Johnson will be Toya Jones out of Montgomery, Alabama, Will Easley, and Walter Waiters.
