During the 2011-2012 academic school year, 11-year-old twin brothers Tiwan and Ty-Kee Peterson received distinctions for their scholarly achievements.
Last August, Tiwan received a letter of commendation from Florida State Senate member, Don Gaetz.
“Your score in mathematics stood out brilliantly,” Gaetz said in the letter. “Your performance is among the highest, not at Myrtle Grove Elementary School, not just in Escambia County, but in the entire State of Florida.
Not to be outdone by his brother, Ty-Kee received special certificate from President Barack Obama for “Outstanding Academic Excellence”.
“Since the President thinks I’m smart I feel like I can do anything I want to do in life,” Ty-Kee said.
The twins, who will start the 6th grade next week at Jim C. Bailey Middle School, say they always try to receive good grades. The two say they complete their homework together everyday.
“I spend thirty minutes studying after school,” said Tiwan, whose favorite subject is Language Arts. A lover of adventure books and comics like Spiderman and Superman, Tiwan said that he will try out for the archery club this upcoming school year.
Ty-Kee says his goals for next school year is to the keep good grades and also make the basketball team.
When asked what advice did they have for other students, Tiwan said, “Listen to your teacher and try your best to make good grades.”
