Mr. Emmett Thompson Honored by Community

Community members, friends as well as former band students paid tribute to Mr. Emmett Thompson Monday morning at the Luncheon held at the Marie Young Community Center.
Mr. Admiral LeRoy, Master of Ceremony, welcomed everyone to the occasion followed by Mr. Bobbie Puryear-Locke and Mr. Jesse Walker who delivered the occasion.

Belmont Youth Band, directed by Ms. Vivian Lamont played various melodies dedicated to Mr. Thompson.

Thompson was the band director at Booker T. Washington Junior High School then located on A and Strong Street for a number of years. Under his leadership, many young people not only learned how to play an instrument but also learned values and responsibility.

Booker T. Washington Junior High School no longer exists. It was closed and demolished. Today Greater Little Rock Baptist Church stands in it’s place.
“We wanted to give Mr. Thompson an appreciation while he lived to show him just how much he was loved,” said Marion Williams.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Prov 22:6
