NAACP Hosts 23rd Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet

The Pensacola Branch of the NAACP hosted the 23rd Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Awards Banquet on August 3, 2013 at New World Landing. Impromptu guest speaker for the evening was Ms Millie Smith.


Speaking to a crowd of approximately 250 people, Ms Smith encouraged the audience to get involved with some organization.  “My mother said to tell you to pray first, get involved in your local organizations, don’t be afraid and know that there is power in numbers. “


Five students received awards from the NAACP organization along with awards given to various organizations for their support.

The Pensacola Branch, the oldest in the State of Florida, was founded in 1919, ten (10) years after the national organization was founded in 1909. John Veasley, DDS, MPH serves as the new branch president, Eladies Sampson serves as 1st Vice President, Alan Tart is the 2nd Vice President, and Dr. Joyce Hopson is the Secretary, Christal Montgomery is the Assistant Secretary, the Treasurer is Theresa Simmons, and the Assistant Treasurer is Bettie Lee.
