Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was founded in Washington D.C. on the campus of Howard University in 1908. It is the first Greek organization founded by educated African American females. Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded on the premises of leadership and service to all mankind. Throughout the years, Alpha Kappa Alpha has taken much pride and joy in providing service to the community.
Pensacola’s Delta Iota Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha is very proud to celebrate their 59th Debutante Ball on December 26, 2015. This year, eighteen young ladies from various high schools throughout the county, will be introduced to society. These young ladies were selected based on their academics and also by their stellar conduct in their schools and community. They have received a wealth of knowledge through various workshops that were offered by the sorority; such as college and career day, health and beauty, communication, literacy, and they also coordinated and executed a community service project. This year, the young ladies decided to collect toiletries to deliver to the poor and destitute in our local community. It was truly a humbling and life-changing experience for each Debutante. Throughout this process, the Debutantes were also given the opportunity to compete for chapter sponsored scholarships. The winners of the scholarships will be announced on the night of the ball.
