Admiral “L’Spi-Del” LeRoy Jr., founder and publisher of Out Front Magazine, partnered with Joe Gilchrist, who launched the Flora-Bama Lounge in 1978, to celebrate the 25th Silver Anniversary of New Beginnings Publishing/Out Front Magazine this past Monday, July 11th in Warrington. Once again, Admiral Leroy serving as executive producer of the celebratory event was assisted by the awesome team of Angelena Wheat, Mike Riley, Linda Moorer, Yolanda Clark, and Mamie Hixson to assemble and promote an impressive anniversary celebration. Show-Time Productions and the New Malibu Lounge and Grill took the credit for the joint production effort.
Out Front Magazine is a bi-monthly lifestyle publication with a special interest in music and entertainment. The magazine primarily serves the Greater Pensacola, Northwest Florida, South Alabama, and the Greater Gulf Coast (from New Orleans to Tallahassee) African American communities. The magazine enjoys additional circulation and distribution around the Southeastern United States with writers of various ages, perspectives, and geographical representations. Joe Gilchrist made a strategic move to partner up with the “Admiral” to celebrate his magazine’s anniversary bringing a huge African-American “standing room only” turnout that was also very diverse. Gilchrist is also the founder of the “The Frank Brown International Song Writers Festival” which will be held this year on November 3rd through November 13th in various venues around the Gulf Coast. The New Malibu Lounge located at 1000 Gulf Beach Highway, has been renovated by Gilchrist as he is bringing new life to this part of Warrington reaching out across the Gulf Coast, seeking an age and racially diverse clientele.
Admiral Leroy took the stage to thank his sponsors Cox Communications, Gulf Power Company, Miller Coors Company, Vince Whibbs Automotive Group, Publix Supermarket, and the New Malibu Lounge and Grill. He later took the stage as if he was a television program host utilizing a bar stool as his prop thanking many persons in the community for their contributions to the magazine and to his life personally.
The super talented lineup boasted a reunited James and Bobby Purify and Larry T. Wilson and Big Muddy Band. There was also a great serving of food with New Orleans flair of cuisine by Greg Stephens, who claims the Crescent City as his former home.
