Booker T Washington High School was the place to be Friday evening as approximately 700+ children and parents enjoyed an evening of giveaways and treats provided by Truth for Youth Organization.
As this was no ordinary event everyone, including the youngest child, took a seat and listened quietly as Rev. John Powell spoke to them, gave instructions and played games including money giveaways.
Also present was County Commissioner Lumon May, Sheriff’s Representative Chip Simmons, and County Commissioner Grover Robinson. Each came to bring greetings to the crowd and watch the festivities of the evening.
Toys included bicycles, dolls, games and much more. “This year we had quite a bit of donations from our sponsors and people giving in general,” said Rev. Powell. I want to thank Carpenters Camper, Vowels Printing Company, Viola‘s Men’s Wear, Doris Healthy Hair Care, Choice 106.9, McGee Groceries, Modern Woodmen of America, The Dwarf Chicken Restaurant, Gathering Awareness Book Center, Jeweler’s Trade, Arlen’s Bar B Que, Community Churches and friends that loves children.
Also we want to thank The Century/Milton McDonalds, and the Mrs. Susan O’Conner, Owner of McDonalds in Pensacola, Booker T Washington High School and Milton High School, who so graciously allowed us to use their facility for this project and also Joe Morris Funeral Home, Tracey Morton Funeral Home, and Benboes Funeral Home for their contributions.
The evening didn’t stop there. So that everyone could enjoy the evening, Truth for Youth took Santa to Oakwood Terrace to give children that were not able to make it to the lock-in a chance to receive toys and goodies as well. One child could be overheard telling another “I told you Santa was going to come, I told you he would come….”
