On Saturday, February 25, 2017, the Cultural Heritage Museum, located on Belmont and DeVillers, was the location that was set to celebrate Black History Month with King Bangaly Traore and his wife, Premier Dame, 1st Lady Ethel Lane Traore of Guinea West Africa. The event was hosted by Shirley Terrell-Stone and co-host Andrea Bonner, former Ms. Pensacola. The festivities began with author/poet Tamika Hampton, followed by sultry, soulful old school songs of love by the Belmont Trio Band and concluded with band conductor, Vivian Lamont. Ms. Lamont presented a special rendition especially selected for the Royals to be remembered for years to come.
The Sankofa Cultural Heritage Museum, owners Elder Yahcal Ben Ysrayl and Ima Rivkiyah Bhat (The Talinda Thompson Production) displayed cultural artifacts of the King and Queen’s homeland that made them feel right at home; this is a ‘must see’ educational display of our Black History.
The best DJ in town, Mr. DeWayne Hardaway, set the tone with John Holt of Back to Gospel and Pensacola’s very own Heavenly Stars as they ‘took us back’ to the gospel. The nationally renowned gospel singer, Mr. Will Easley, ministered an anointed array of gospel music that left the crowd in tears. Mr. Easley set an example of giving to the Johnson family, a homeless family of four who came to Pensacola to begin a fresh start. This warm and selfless act overwhelmed the crowd to show the same love and compassion with their own donations. The Johnson Family is currently living at The Palm Court located at 6911 Pensacola Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32505 where the hotel owner, Mr. Allen Patel opens his rooms for the homeless. We are reminded, that God does not see color but that all lives matter.
Shepherd’s Place founder and CEO, Shirley Terrell-Stone and Fresh Start Ministries, founder and CEO Reverend Winifred Pettiway, partnered with Palm Court to help those in need of transitional housing.
Our local media lovingly covered this event, Channel 3 News (WEAR), Jackie Miles of The Gulf Coast Voice and radio station 9.80, Mr. Robert Hill. Pensacola is a place where Faith Works to give the homeless a new beginning, a fresh start.
