Power of Service Award and Recognition of Grassroots Nonprofits in North West Florida

Northwest Florida Community Outreach, Inc.  (NWFCO) was in the spotlight on 4/11/2017 at the annual Power of Service Awards and Reception sponsored by Gulf Power Company. Many may recognize this organization for its Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, Senior Neighbor Breakfast and Bingo and Generation to Generation and the many educational workshops they host in the Lincoln Park area each year. COO, Christeia Salter, was overwhelmed with gratitude for the recognition of the organization after working diligently in Escambia County for 15 years.  Gulf Power Company CEO and President, Mr. Stan Connelly and Mr. Verdell Hawkins, Community Relations Manager and Exe. Director of the Gulf Power Foundation selected NWFCO along with two other grassroots organizations (HYPE mentoring program-Shaun Hartsfield and Curry House, Lutheran Services-Beth Deck) that provide a service to citizens in Northwest Florida.  The goal of the Foundation has been to use the Power of Service Award as a way to recognize the efforts of smaller organizations that may not have the exposure or resources of nationally know groups. COO, Salter said, “NWFCO does a lot with no budget. Receiving special recognition gives us strength to carry on because someone has noticed our hard work. We are thankful for all our volunteers who give of themselves and their time.  We have a huge Farmshare event planned for our community on 4/22/17 at 10:00 a.m. This is our first time getting the support of local Navy service personnel and we look forward to enjoying this new partnership.”
