President Barack Obama’s letter of congratulations to Pastor Bernard C. Yates, on his 30th Anniversary at Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church was presented to Yates at this past Sunday’s 11:00 am service. Members of the Publicity Committee of Team Celebration Committee, Christal Montgomery and Sylvia Lewis presented the letter to Pastor Yates.  Previous letters of congratulations were received during the actual anniversary celebration on July 17th from the Florida Governor, Congressman Jeff Miller, State Representative Mike Hill, Mayor Ashton Hayward, Sherriff Morgan, Police Chief David Alexander, in addition to proclamations from Escambia County Government and the City of  Pensacola

Pastor Bernard C. Yates celebrated his 30 year Anniversary as the spiritual leader of Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church on July 17th at Sanders Beach-Corrine Jones Center on Pensacola Bay.  This was the first Pastoral Celebration outside of the Zion Hope Church, known as one of Pensacola’s largest African American churches.

President Obama wrote in a portion of the letter: “I am pleased to send my best wishes as you celebrate your 30th anniversary. Since our nation’s earliest days, faith leaders have shown us a willingness to believe and a commitment to prayer can enrich our lives. Through charity and education, these leaders inspire us to live out our faith in service to others”!

The effort to obtain the letter from the president was a surprise for Pastor Yates. The Publicity Committee members, Christal Montgomery and Linda Green kept it confidential until the letter arrived in late November.   Publicity team members included Brandon Howard, Torry Knight, Sylvia Lewis, Jeff English, Fred Williams, Ava Abney and Christal Montgomery.
