Regional Medical Group Selects New President

Bob Murphy


PENSACOLA, Fla. — Sacred Heart Health System, Providence Health System, and Ascension have named Bob Murphy as the new president of the Sacred Heart/Providence Medical Group.

Both Sacred Heart Health System based in Pensacola and Providence Health System in Mobile, Ala., are part of Ascension, the nation’s largest non-profit health system and the world’s largest Catholic health system. Murphy will lead the region’s largest network of physicians, nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers.  Together, the combined Sacred Heart and Providence healthcare network covers a 300-mile span of the Gulf Coast with offices from Pascagoula, Miss. to Apalachicola, Fla.

In his healthcare career, Murphy has worked as a nurse, paramedic, attorney, hospital administrator and hospital chaplain.  For the past 10 years, he served as a senior leader and international speaker with the Studer Group, where he worked closely with healthcare leaders across the United State to improve care to patients. Many of his years in healthcare were spent at Baptist Healthcare in Pensacola where his roles included senior vice president and administrator, chief operating officer, Life Flight program director, and trauma nurse coordinator.

Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama, a master’s degree in public administration from Troy University, and a law degree from Stetson University College of Law.
