Saturday morning approximately 200 people participated in the 5K Walk for Sickle Cell Disease. Hosted by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Inc. the walk began at 8am at the headquarter office located at 514 N. DeVillliers Street and went through downtown Pensacola and back. On-site registration began at 7am with various organizations and groups signing up to support the cause.
Massages were also available to participants and those waiting on the sidelines.
Founded in 1977, the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families with sickle cell disease to assist them to receive necessary services and support. The major objectives of the Association is to advocate, develop and implement programs and services to benefit individuals suffering from sickle cell disease.
