The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., of Pensacola, FL, held its annual Teach-A-Rama Activity at the Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast on November 19, 2015. The theme this year was “A Picture Says a Thousand Words”. Debra Haynes, the chairperson, along with Ethel Coleman, the Basileus, and other members, Francine Parker, Esther Gregory, and Juanita Clark worked diligently to make learning fun for the youngsters. The students were read a story from a picture book. Upon completion of the book talk, they were allowed to work with a partner to create a poster using visuals to retell the events of the story as they saw it. They collaboratively wrote a short summary making inferences with their partner to express their thoughts about the author’s message. The writing was attached to the poster with their collage that coincided with their story. Each group did an oral presentation to their peers. The finished products were put on display in their classrooms by their director, Leslie Hunter Huff, and her assistants. Refreshments were served afterwards. Approximately 35 children, from kindergarten through middle school attended the event.
