Forget New York Fashion Week! Want to know what trends are hot in the streets? Check out the next Truth for Youth Fashion Show.
Held last Saturday, October 13 at Pensacola High School, the first Divas and Gents Fall Fashion Show was a hit.
Sheila Green, a volunteer with Truth for Youth served as director for the Fall 2012 Fashion show.
“It’s probably going to be a bi-annual thing – doing a show in the Fall and Spring,” Green said.” I thought that it would give the children an opportunity to show off their talents as well as raise money for Truth for Youth. “
Green says they didn’t focus on just modeling, but self-esteem as well.
“It’s not just about a fashion show; we kind of turned it into a small club where any child that is interested in joining can come in.”
The show featured 25 youngsters who have been working on the showcase since July every Saturday. The participants modeled donated garments from Sears, RUE 21, WET Seal, G’s Creation by Pearline Graham and Mezza De Luna Consignment Studio.
“I think the kids were enthused,” Green said. “I had more children walk up to me … and parents asking how they could get their child involved.”
“The kids spoke for me,” Green said. “They were enthusiastic about it because it displayed them. It wasn’t about me or Rev. Powell; it was strictly about the youth.”
