When seniors have fun!

By Jacquie Miles
If you thought being a senior citizen meant a life of boredom, think again.  Tuesday morning approximately 200 senior citizens met at the Bayview Senior Citizen Center to enjoy a day of life, fun and camaraderie.
With music playing of artists such as Fats Domino, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and the Stylistics, people danced, tapped their feet and clapped to the beat as they reminisced of the times passed.

No one was idle at this event.  From dominoes slapping the table to checkers or just playing cards, no one was left out.

There was even a best desert contest.  Judges sampled cakes and pies, some twice, and it was obvious that this contest was going to be tough.  After a lot of deliberation, the winners were announced:  Yvonne Thompson emerged as the first place winner – winning $50.  Tera Moultrie place second and Ms. Trimble placed third.  Each participant received a prize.

Rev. Andrew Toms hosted the occasion along with sponsors Maureen McBride of MEDI Home Health Care, Debbie Glover of Consulate Health Care, Rob Low of University Pines Independent Retirement and J. J. Roberts of Covenant Hospice.

After all of the dancing, contests and having fun, the guests were treated to a lunch of baked chicken, green beans, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, rolls and cornbread, with various deserts.

When not celebrating Senior Day, these seniors can be found at E. S. Cobb Center exercising, line dancing, playing games, out-of-town trips and a fish fry every Fridays.

Being a senior definitely has its perks.  If you want to have fun and enjoy good friends and fellowship, join this group.  You will be glad you did.
